Going back to school has enabled a 26-year-old from Staffordshire to buy his first home.
Matthew Meredith has snapped up a brand-new two bedroom house at Lovell Homes’ Scholars Way development which is built on the former site of his old primary school in the village of Werrington.
With the assistance of The Government-backed Help to Buy: Equity Loan* scheme and Lovell, Matthew – a PE teacher at a secondary school in Cheshire – has taken his first step on to the housing ladder at the development which has brought modern, high-quality homes to the former school site.
“I’ve got lots of happy memories from my old school, so buying a home here has definitely made me nostalgic,” says Matthew. “It’s also given me the opportunity to buy a brand-new house in the village where I grew up and where new-build homes are rare.
“Before moving, I was still living with my parents. I have been looking for a new home for some time now, hoping to stay within the area as I have many friends and family in Werrington. When I heard about Scholars Way development on my door step, it was ideal for me! I thought the houses were good quality and good value; the fact that they were affordable was one of the main things that attracted me.
“The availability of Help to Buy was also important; without it I wouldn’t have been able to afford somewhere like this and probably would have had to buy a flat or continue living with my parents and keep saving.”
Matthew says: “Now I’ve moved in, I love it, it’s brilliant having my own independence and nice to be able to do what I want when I want to. I am now the proud owner of the Weston house style, a two-bedroom semi-detached home; although my house is just a two-bedroom, it feels spacious – particularly the bedrooms - and the overall design and layout feels very modern.”
Living at Scholars Way gives Matthew easy access to the picturesque Peak District, where he enjoys cycling. In the other direction it’s just a few miles to Stoke-on-Trent where he plays in a five-a-side football team. Perfect for anyone commuting to Stoke or Newcastle-under-Lyme, Scholars Way is within ten miles of Junction 15 of the M6. Leek is eight miles to the north and Ashbourne eighteen miles to the east. The development is less than half a mile from the new Werrington Primary School and less than one-and-a-half miles from Moorside High School.
