Cwmbran pupils made the most of an invitation from housebuilder Lovell to go behind the scenes at a local housing development.
Wearing hard hats and hi vis gear, the young visitors from Llantarnam Community Primary School saw homes taking shape at the company’s Oakfield Grange development and quizzed the Lovell construction team. The visiting youngsters also learned about the importance of health and safety on building sites.
“It was a lot of fun showing the Llantarnam pupils round and answering their questions,” says Bernadette Vickery, Lovell community co-ordinator. “The children have been working on a project to design a bedroom in a new house, so visiting our Oakfield Grange development gave them the chance to see how we do things.
“Inviting children and young people on to site helps them to learn about our industry and will perhaps encourage them to consider construction as a future career, as well as enabling them to discover more about something happening in their neighbourhood. We’re also inviting the Llantarnam Community Primary School pupils to bury a time capsule at the development, so they’ll have a permanent stake in its future!”
The company organised the session as part of its Lovell Legacy commitment to creating a wide range of benefits in the communities where it builds homes.
