The buzz surrounding new Cardiff housing development The Mill brought visitors flocking to find out more at the city’s recent Ely and Caerau Festival
A team from Lovell , the Tirion Group and Cadwyn Housing Association – the partnership behind the development – had a busy time fielding enquiries about the development which will bring 800 new homes to the riverside site in Canton, Cardiff.
“We had a constant stream of visitors to our stand at the Ely and Caerau Festival and took a great number of enquiries about the new homes,” says Lovell business development manager Gemma Clissett. “We had particular interest from first-time buyers and families. People are really excited about the opportunity to live in a brand-new home in this brilliant location close to the centre of Cardiff.”
A newly launched fly-through video of the housing development also proved popular. The film, available here, provides a first glimpse of the 800 homes for purchase and rent - including one- and two-bedroom apartments and two-, three- and four-bedroom homes – set to take shape at the former Arjo Wiggins Paper Mill site, just to the west of the city centre.
The £100 million urban village is one of Wales’ biggest regeneration programmes with half of the 800 brand-new properties set to be affordable homes. The flagship scheme will create 358 homes for open market sale by Lovell and 442 homes for Tirion which will be for rent through Cadwyn.
Peter Mathias, chairman of the Tirion Group, says: “Throughout the initial stages of planning and development on The Mill site, listening to and informing the local community has been a key priority for us. It was a privilege to be able to attend the Ely and Caerau Festival to answer people’s questions about this major project.“An increased sense of community is one of the long term goals of The Mill site, and we look forward to continuing enhancing the local area economically and socially through its development.”
Andrew Bateson, director of operations at Cadwyn Housing Association, adds: “After a long pre construction process we are delighted to see the plans for this exciting development come to fruition. This development will provide much needed affordable housing and we look forward to our continuing partnership with the Tirion Group and Lovell.”
Work began in December 2015 on the creation of the infrastructure for the development which will feature a tree-lined main boulevard with leafy ‘green streets’ branching off it. Construction of the new homes will begin by the end of 2016 with the first 102 homes for Tirion set to be completed by the end of 2017 and the development of 358 homes for sale set to be finished in 2022.
Lovell is inviting homeseekers to get in touch now to register their interest and get updates on the latest news about the scheme. Visit the development’s new website www.themill-canton.co.uk to join the mailing list or contact 02920 606 766 for more details.
