Operations director turns referee for Street Canaries initiative

Our regional operations director, Trevor Haystead, recently turned his hand to being a referee for a Street Canaries initiative delivered by the Norwich City Community Sports Foundation, which we help sponsor.

Premier League Kicks targets young people, aged 8 to 18, who have previously proven difficult to reach and helps guide them towards a range of sporting activities, using football as the main engagement tool. Various workshops and sessions are delivered educating young people on issues they face daily. During term time, sessions run five nights a week, 40 weeks of the year.

Norwich Community Sports Foundations Kicks project has been a huge success, contributing to a reduction in anti-social behaviour and crime within local communities, whilst improving sport engagement.

We caught up with Trevor after, who said: “Being able to get involved with this is a great way to get young people in sport, helping them integrate into the community and we have a fantastic development of homes at William’s Park at Wymondham. By getting involved in Street Canaries, residents can make new friends and improve their confidence and it helps them develop their sporting skills. At Lovell we want to leave a legacy for our community, and getting involved with Streeet Canaries does just that.”

Steve Bramble, director of education and Programmes at Community Sports Foundation said: “Without the support of people like Lovell, these opportunities are just not possible for young people in their communities. It provides something positive for young people to do in the evenings. Lovell want to give something back to community, which is positive, and for us to be able to work together, we can achieve this.”
